At Illuminate Support Services, we believe that every person has the right to live their most fulfilling life. In a world overcome by segregation and isolation, especially for those living with a disability, we at Illuminate cherish togetherness and teamwork.
With a strong emphasis on strengths-based approaches, our support workers focus on what our clients aim to achieve in their lives. In this context, we believe our bottom-up strategy stands out in a society where top-down systems are often valued.
At Illuminate, our clients oversee their own destiny, and our support workers (or ‘Advocators’, as we like to call them) assist them to achieve their goals.
To encourage this collaboration, we also ensure that our support workers experience a warm and welcoming work environment. This includes ongoing supervision, a pleasant work/life balance, frequent social interactions, and the inspiration to successfully assist those in our community who live with a disability.
Additionally, Illuminate values the personable touches that make us more than just a company. By avoiding a cold, purely online presence, we foster more of a family feel where everyone is welcome and is encouraged to connect with the rest of the team.
To help voice the voiceless
To help develop awareness
To help facilitate change
To bring the community together
Jessie James is the founder of Illuminate Support Services, a busy Mum of two, and an emerging social worker. Jessie initially found her love for working in the disability sector when she volunteered for an agency which facilitated group outings in the community. She enjoyed the excitement these events created for the participants, as well as the sense of fulfillment she received from giving back to others.
After having her children, she found herself following her passion again by becoming a Disability Support Worker in the Macedon Ranges. The work cemented in Jessie’s mind that she had found her life’s purpose – to care for other human beings.
During a conversation with one of her clients about finding additional support for him, he jokingly stated: “I wish we could just clone you!”
That’s when Jessie decided to start Illuminate Support Services, creating a community of like-minded support workers, or ‘Advocators’.
Jessie believes that our clients should be in control of the support they receive, as well as the Advocators who assist them. She maintains that the best way to create a successful and lasting relationship between participant and worker, is to ensure that their personalities match.
Jessie looks forward to meeting each and every one of you.
